Yes, all paid staff is female. We do have occasional men who assist with maintenance issues, but all of the direct support staff in contact with residents are female. To the best of our ability and depending on the agency’s availability, we also have the resident’s healthcare providers be all female. This includes physicians, nurses, optometrists, physical therapists, therapists, etc.
Are there outings?
Yes, there are educational outings as well as fun outings. A resident must be on level 2 of our program to come on outings for safety reasons. The first two weeks while we are developing that trust, we do not take the resident on outings.
How does your facility keep their residents safe?
There are several ways we keep our residents safe. We keep outside threats at bay by having the property monitored with cameras in common areas and the outside. We use an alarm system with door and window chimes that go off whenever opened, and the doors are always locked. We have a fully stocked storm shelter and protocols in place in the event of severe weather. Residents participate in drills monthly.
Inside of the facility, we keep our residents safe by decreasing the likelihood of self harm. Our nurses station has a locked door with another lock to get into the cabinet where the medications are kept. Inside of the cabinet is also a lock box for controlled substances. We have collapsible rods, a locked sharps drawer, we only allow electric razors (and still lock these up after they get ready), we have a live-in staff for emergencies, and utilize overnight awake staff. Staff are all CPR and first aid certified, and we carry an epipen even on outings. Safety is a priority at the Freedom Ranch, and these are only some of the ways we are proactive about safety concerns.
